I am a licensed clinical psychologist and have been in private practice since 1999. I specialize in adult individuals and couples therapy by using Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy techniques. My expertise includes working with people experiencing struggles with self-esteem, work life balance, creative blocks, health and interpersonal relationships. As a cultural psychologist, I’ve worked with individuals from many cultural backgrounds--including Latin America & South Asia; and those who are struggling with transitions in identity, such as first time motherhood, divorce, and the transition to adulthood. Addressing these issues requires understanding the influence of the past as well as addressing behavior change in the here and now. To me, the therapeutic relationship must involve mutual respect and collaboration.

I received my A.B degree from Harvard College and my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the City University of New York. I was on internship at the Bronx VA Hospital, and received additional post-doctoral training at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research.

I am Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at UMass Chan Medical School, where I conduct research on culture, health and health disparities. I have taught at Albert Einstein, Fordham University, and in other local settings, and have authored over 85 peer-reviewed papers. I currently co-lead a training program on mental health research at the ICDDRB Research Institute in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

I am also the Founder and former Director of Sapna NYC, a non-profit organization that uses empowerment and social networking strategies to address health disparities and economic dependence among South Asian women immigrants.
